Профессор Пиет является мировым лидером в области инноваций в поддержании самостоятельного лечения хронических заболеваний. Он концентрируется на улучшении качества поддержки для пациентов с различными хроническими заболеваниями, включая диабет, сердечно-сосудистые заболевания, депрессию и хроническую боль.

Занимается разработкой мобильных медицинских устройств, направленных на улучшение мониторинга состояния здоровья пациентов и оказание помощи, ориентированной на изменение поведения. Он также изучает факторы риска при недостаточном или плохом следовании терапии.

Старший научный сотрудник по разработке и анализу в штате Вирджиния, заместитель директора Программы Медицинской школы UM (UM Medical School Global REACH Program) и Мичиганского центра трансляционных исследований диабета (Michigan Diabetes Translational Research Center).
